Terms of service
Last updated October 26, 2026
These terms cover your use of Fuel Snooper, run by Fuel Snooper ("we"). By placing an order you agree to them.
1. What Fuel Snooper is
Fuel Snooper is a marketplace. We show you prices from independent, licensed heating oil dealers who deliver to your address, take your payment, and pass it to the dealer you choose. The dealer sells and delivers the fuel and is responsible for the delivery itself, including safe filling of your tank. We are responsible for the website, the checkout and the payment.
2. Prices and fees
- Each dealer sets its own price per gallon and delivery fee. We rank offers by total cost; paid placement never changes the order.
- We charge a booking fee, shown before you order. It is a percentage of the order with a minimum, and it is lower when you pay by bank account.
- A price is good for the time shown on the offer. A "Confirmed" price has been reviewed by the dealer for your request.
3. Paying
- Card, Cash App Pay and PayPal: we place a temporary hold for up to 10% more than the gallons you order, in case your tank takes more. After delivery we charge only for the gallons on the dealer's meter ticket, plus the delivery and booking fees, and release the rest. If delivery is more than 6 days away we save your card and place the hold closer to the delivery date.
- Bank account: no hold. After delivery we debit the exact amount. Bank payment is available after your first completed delivery.
- Payments are processed by Stripe (and PayPal, if you choose it). We never see or store your full card or bank numbers.
4. Cancelling
You can cancel from your order page until the truck is on the way. Any hold is released. Once the dealer is on the way, contact us and we'll work it out with the dealer.
5. Delivery
- The dealer delivers within the window shown, or tells you early if that changes.
- Make sure the driver can reach your fill pipe. Tanks are filled to a safe level, never to the top.
- Problems with the fuel or the delivery: please tell us as soon as you can, ideally within 7 days, so we can take it up with the dealer while it's fresh. Telling us later doesn't take away any rights you have.
6. If a bank payment is returned
If your bank returns a payment, we'll email you (and text you, if you gave us a mobile number) between 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. Eastern, and you can pay the balance by card or Cash App, or ask for a payment plan. We contact only you about a balance. New orders are paused until the balance is paid or on a plan.
7. Your account
You sign in with a one-time code we email or text you; there is no password. Keep access to your email secure. You confirm your email with a code before your first order.
8. Texts
If you give us a mobile number, we may text you about your order (for example, when the truck is on the way). Reply STOP to stop texts. Message and data rates may apply.
9. Responsibility
We work hard to keep prices and information accurate, but dealers supply their own prices, windows and details. To the extent the law allows, our responsibility for any order is limited to the booking fee you paid us for it, and the dealer is responsible for the fuel and the delivery. Nothing here limits rights you have under consumer-protection law.
10. Changes and governing law
We may update these terms; the date above shows when. Orders follow the terms in effect when you placed them. These terms are governed by the law of the state where the delivery takes place.
11. New Jersey customers
If your delivery address is in New Jersey, these points apply in addition to, and where they conflict instead of, the sections above.
- Section 9 (Responsibility) is limited in New Jersey. The cap on our responsibility does not apply to harm caused by our own negligence, gross negligence or intentional conduct, to claims under the New Jersey Consumer Fraud Act, or to any other right New Jersey law says cannot be limited by contract.
- No other section takes away a New Jersey right. Nothing in these terms waives or limits any right you have under New Jersey law, including the Consumer Fraud Act and the Truth-in-Consumer Contract, Warranty and Notice Act. We have named above the section that works differently for New Jersey customers; every other section applies as written.
- Delivery tickets. New Jersey requires your dealer to give you a delivery ticket with each delivery showing the date, gallons delivered, price per gallon and total price. Fuel Snooper charges you for the gallons on that ticket, never more than the amount you approved at checkout.
- Meters. Delivery truck meters in New Jersey must be registered, sealed against tampering and inspected by state or county Weights and Measures officials. If you think a meter was wrong, tell us and the NJ Division of Consumer Affairs.
- Complaints. You can always contact the NJ Division of Consumer Affairs at 1-800-242-5846 (toll-free in New Jersey) or njconsumeraffairs.gov.
- Governing law. New Jersey law governs orders delivered in New Jersey.
